A phased reopening of the Disneyland Resort is already underway in California.
At the moment only Downtown Disney District is open, for state residents only. But, as previously announced, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is scheduled to reopen on April 29, and the most anticipated reopening – Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park are scheduled to reopen on April 30, with limited capacity, to CA residents only. Also on May 2, Disney Vacation Club Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa will reopen. More reopenings to be announced as per state guidelines.
That’s great news! But you know things are going to be quite different for some time. Park capacity and experiences will be limited, in order to maintain social distancing. Admission is limited to a 25% capacity, per the orange tier guidelines, to CA residents only, and guests need to make a reservation in advance. All guests need a theme park reservation and a valid park ticket for the same park, on the same date. No fast passes or single rider lines. The very popular annual passholder (AP) program was already canceled in Jan. 2021.
Tickets will go on sale on April 15. A new park reservation system is being implemented, which will open on April 12. Ticket holders will be required to have a park reservation for the same day to be able to enter the park. Park admission is not guaranteed. Reservations are subject to availability. The guest’s party size is maximum 10 people, and not more than three households.
Once you are inside, social distancing and masks will be required anywhere in the park, and the facilities will adopt enhanced cleaning procedures and modify certain experiences in order to reduce contact. So no hugging your favorite characters! At least for now. Park hopping — the ability to go between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure — won’t be available either at the beginning. No parking trams, so get ready to walk to the parks via a dedicated walkway from the Mickey & Friends and Pixar Pals Parking Structures; (about 15-20 minute walk). Many rides and attractions will be closed at the beginning, like The Matterhorn, the Jungle Cruise, Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage and DCA will open without Grizzly River Run. But what will be open on day 1?
